Review of College Kids

I love when they bring an interesting character back -- Leo's lawyer
Jordan was lots of fun last season, and I'm happy to see her return. And she
even might date him again -- but why has it taken so long for a second date
to occur anyhow? "She's a little wary. But I think she'll go out with me
again."
Sigh. It doesn't matter how cool Jackie Chan is, or how many times they
show that "The Tuxedo" commercial, I'm not going to see a movie starring
Jennifer Love Hewitt.
I like Bruno. When did that happen? When he first showed up, with the
other "new guys" for the campaign, I wasn't so crazy about him. Or maybe it
was the other "new guys" that annoyed me. Maybe it was when he gave Margaret
the necklace. I don't know. But I'm kind of fond of the guy now, which is a
shame since I imagine that in a couple more episodes, the election will be
over and he'll be history.
Speaking of the election, it must be said: I appreciate the tension and
the suspense of it all, of course, but just so everyone's clear: we all know
Bartlet's going to win. Now matter how many times they rule for Sullivan or
something else goes wrong, it's still a foregone conclusion. I hardly think
James Brolin is going to take over the series. So far he's only appeared on
camera once or twice, not counting that glimpse of his head next to
Bartlet's on a TV screen last night.
"Joy cometh in the morning, Sir." I thought the speech that grew out of
Sam's parting words to the President was pretty nifty, too. FYI, that's
Psalms 30:5, "For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life:
weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
Leo is really something of a gourmand, isn't he? That bit with the potato
salad ("a few more bites and I'll have the puzzle worked out and this monkey
off my back"), the cooking show last week, more references to dining out in
previous seasons. I wonder if it's a reaction to having to stay sober.
Eating instead of drinking? It doesn't matter, though, since that fine
appreciation for cuisine doesn't seem to affect his waistline any.
So. All college tuition should be tax deductible. I'm all for it as long
as all unpaid student loans are tax deductible too. I'm a selfish person
when it comes to things like this, and I already owe my small fortune. I'm
just saying.
I guess I always *knew* that flammable and inflammable mean the same
thing. But when you think about it, that's really kind of weird, isn't it?
For any "word geeks" (I'm including myself in that group) that are
interested, here's what Dictionary.com has to say on the subject:
"Historically, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing. However, the
presence of the prefix in- has misled many people into assuming that
inflammable means "not flammable" or "noncombustible." The prefix -in in
inflammable is not, however, the Latin negative prefix -in, which is related
to the English -un and appears in such words as indecent and inglorious.
Rather, this -in is an intensive prefix derived from the Latin preposition
in. This prefix also appears in the word enflame. But many people are not
aware of this derivation, and for clarity's sake it is advisable to use only
flammable to give warnings."
That was Special Agent Mike Casper, wasn't it? We've seen this guy before.
Sam went to visit him about the grandfather of Donna's friend who turned out
to be a spy. And then he was the head of a task force about a domestic
terrorism incident; I recall him being in the Oval with Josh ("That wall is
curved.").
While Charlie's getting the President's daughter on the phone, in
ascending order of age, could he ask them to maybe drop by and pay a visit
during an episode sometime? I'm not saying we should turn the show into "All
in the President's Family" or anything, but just a drop-in or something.
That would be nice. I mean, we've heard an awful lot about the President's
granddaughter, Annie. We might as well meet her once.
As others have stated, that was Aimee Mann singing James Taylor's "Shed A
Little Light". But although that was the Barenaked Ladies' "One Week", and
there were some fellows on stage cavorting around, I don't know. I'm not
convinced it was them. It might have been, but as mentioned elsewhere, there
weren't any close-ups and the guys I could see on stage didn't look
familiar. I'm something of a BNL fan, so I thought I'd be able to recognize
them. This one's too close to call for me.
"No disinformation to the American press unless it's about my medical
history" - see, just a year or two later and we're laughing about it.
I thought Donna was making a valid point about sports scholarships
(whether you agree or disagree with her, it was still a point worth
discussing) and Josh just got up and walked away to talk to Amy. Ugh. All
right, I'm biased, I don't like the character but I suppose I understand. In
any case, clearly they went their separate ways after last year's debacle,
but I sense some kind of reunion on the horizon.
"I have only so much RAM in my head."
