Review of Documentary Special
Written by Toniann
Well, not as much to say as usual, but just a couple of things:
I had heard that the former presidents were not going to be any larger a part of this special than the other staffers, but it did seem as if former President Jimmy Carter spoke more than the others, at least to me. I'm not complaining. I liked what he said about the balance between sycophants and those who will tell you the brutal truth, and also about the risks you take that may cost you an election. Well said, all of it.
All I know is, it's going to be a long time before I forget the image of riding the Sizzler with Alan Greenspan.
I would have loved to hear even more from Kris Engskow, one of the president's personal aides. Charlie is one of my favorite characters on the show, but I also think that's got to be one of the most fascinating jobs on the planet. What did Josh say about it once? It's the second-hardest job in the White House? Indeed.
It sure it glamorous to meet with the Pope and the Queen all in one day, but heck, I'm still jealous over having Yo Yo Ma play at your Christmas party.
Loved the metaphor about the press as a "pride of lions", walking about, reading their papers, drinking coffee -- and ready to pounce. :)
I can't remember what episode it's from, but that scene where Toby talks about "no one gets left behind", man, that still gives me chills.
Last but not least -- and I guess this is a spoiler if you don't watch the previews...
