Review of The Drop-In
Written by Toniann
Something I was curious about. Is it customary that the Chief of Staff
is as much involved with Defense as Leo is? I was just thinking of the
many scenes we've had in the Situation Room where it seems that Leo is
running the show. Is that accurate?
Speaking of the Situation Room, how come we haven't seen more of Anna
Devere Smith? At the beginning of the season there was some media buzz
about her addition to the show, and we've barely seen her.
As a new Palm owner myself, I just noticed for the first time that
Charlie is using a Palm Pilot. Has he always had one?
Was Leo serious about not understanding the Charlie Brown/Lucy
reference?
OT: Why is it that they use the score from "Braveheart" for the "Cast
Away" ads? I know that when a movie is new or not yet released, they
sometimes use a different bit of music for the ads, for various reasons.
But "Cast Away" has been out for awhile. I know, it's a little thing.
It's just that I loved the "Braveheart" score, so it's instantly
recognizable to me.
Is it just me, or did CJ sound a little stuffy in her first press
briefing? By stuffy I mean having nasal congestion, you understand, not
stuffy as in stiff and prissy.
Every time they mentioned the GDC I kept thinking about "The American
President".
So, with all of the connections and pull and official and non-official
channels at the disposal of the White House, Donna is the first person
to find out who the new British Ambassador to the US is? If so, clearly
they're not utilizing her talents correctly.
Staff tension moment I loved: when Josh came to the press room and
asked Sam if he could borrow CJ for a moment and CJ snapped, "Why do you
ask him where I can go?" And the reason I loved this moment is that it
really wasn't a big deal, I'm sure; I'm not implying or referring to
some huge underlying thing about CJ or Josh or Sam. It's just that this
is the kind of thing that happens in offices ten times a day, every day,
even amongst people who respect each other as much as these people do. I
think the camaraderie between these characters is extraordinary-- let's
face it, it's unrealistically extraordinary. But little touches like
this keep it from being unbelievable, imho.
I loved Donna and CJ's comments on Lord John Marbury, the teasing
banter between Josh and Donna about him, CJ's statement about how her
"love for him is real". Cute.
And speaking of CJ... her scene with Corey Sykes was fantastic. I must
confess that ever since Allison Janney told us that CJ would be getting
a love interest soon, someone new, I've had my eyes open. Is this the
guy? I know some of us out there hate anything that smacks of romantic
drama on TWW, but we've been given the head's up that it's coming and I
can't help but be curious.
Last but not least, Toby and Sam: well, I can hardly not comment on
what happened between them in this episode, but on the other hand, I'm
not sure what *did* happen. I think I know why Toby did what he did, and
I think I know why Sam was angry. I just don't know whose side I see
more.
